By: Russ Nelson The Prince Edward Island Emergency Measures Organization is responsible for the coordination and management of emergency management activities within the province. The organization operates under the authority of the PEI Emergency Measures Act, which can be found at: https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/sites/default/files/legislation/E-06-1-Emergency%20Measures%20Act.pdf Using an “All Hazards Emergency Plan” as the basic coordination plan for response to all types of non-routine emergency within the Province, the Emergency Measures Organization outlines how a provincial response to a major emergency or disaster is coordinated. The primary mandate of the organization is to provide assistance and coordination for an emergency response when requested by a municipality or in a province-wide emergency. Employing a provincial Incident Command System (ICS) as the standard procedure for responding to incidents and events, both small and large, the Emergency Measures Organization participates in both responses, exercises and training opportunities for municipal officials.
